In this senior-level class, the goal is to work with a small team and, over the semester, create a 30-second 3d animated commercial. Both semesters, my idea was chosen by the professor, and I was assigned to lead, but each semester had very different outcomes.
Spring 2025
Beginning (Pitch, Storyboard, Scheduling) :
Pitch: I originally pitched an idea for the product Toniebox. This product is a children's speaker where you put a character on top and it plays music/stories relating to that character. I wanted to play more into the imagination aspect and have the speaker transform the world around the child into one of imagination, where the character comes to life.
Storyboarding: After learning from mistakes in the previous semester, I came to my group on day one with three different rough storyboards. This was I still had control over the initial idea, but they would be able to give me feedback on what would make them the happiest to work on. In my three initial stories, one was a little boy + Spiderman, the second was a little girl + a princess, and the third was a parent and baby + animals. My team voted for the Spider-Man story, so I quickly got to creating a better-looking storyboard, along with figuring out timing.
Scheduling: I created detailed schedules I continued to update throughout the semester. This was mainly to ensure there would be plenty of time at the end to work in Unreal. Along with this, every Monday, I would make us a weekly to-do list detailing what I was expecting to receive from everyone on the weekend. On Wednesdays, I would check in individually with each team member to ensure we were on the same page. This created an amazing foundation where everyone knew exactly what they should be doing, and when they needed it done by.
